Optimising LVT Cutting Efficiency with Biesse Selco Beam Saw and Precision Tooling

Boardtek, a leading manufacturer in the production of Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT), is known for its high-quality flooring used in both residential and commercial projects. However, when tasked with cutting LVT for showroom display samples, Boardtek faced significant challenges. The cutting tools and machinery used in their production process were not delivering the precision and efficiency required for LVT, leading to issues such as chipping and backing tearing. This created delays, and Boardtek urgently needed a solution to improve cutting performance and reduce material waste.

Our Approach

Unilap worked closely with Boardtek to identify the root cause of their LVT cutting issues. We found that the standard saw blades, including premium Kanefusa Board Pro blades, were too aggressive for LVT, causing chipping and tearing. To solve this, we recommended a 500mm Kanefusa saw blade with 120 teeth and a 3.5mm kerf, specifically designed for plastics.

We quickly modified the bore size and added location pin holes to fit the Biesse Selco Beam Saw, converting the tooth geometry to a plastic-cutting design. This change provided a cleaner, smoother cut, eliminating chipping and tearing.

By switching to this optimized blade, Boardtek saw a significant increase in cutting precision, reduced material waste, and faster production speeds. The new saw blades also improved tool life, reducing maintenance and downtime costs.

Thanks to our prompt solution, Boardtek was able to meet tight deadlines, improve efficiency, and maintain the high quality their clients expect.
